Irvine Hebrew Day School is embarking on the next growth phase of our school community. We are seeking a Principal to assist the Head of School in ensuring that our student body of 70 students and 14 educational staff continue to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. IHDS is a WASC Accredited K-8 Jewish Day School located on a beautiful 5-acre campus in the heart of Santa Ana, Orange County.

Duties & Responsibilities

Curriculum and Assessment:
Collaborate with the HOS to align curriculum and educational vision, and to build a school-wide community.
Engage with and support faculty on all aspects of the growth and evaluation process, including but not limited to: professional growth plans, classroom observations, reflection tools, holistic evaluations, and professional development.
Ongoing design, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum in collaboration with the administrative team and faculty.
Oversight of standards, benchmarks, and student evaluation, with special attention to transitions into elementary school, middle school, and preparation for success in high school.
Inspire, promote, encourage, and nurture new and innovative programs, including those spearheaded by faculty, and support faculty on program improvement initiatives.
Oversee testing and assessment, including but not limited to implementation of NWEA MAP Growth and CogAT (GATE testing).
Work closely with the HOS and Director of Jewish Learning to successfully integrate Jewish learning and experiences.
Establish timelines of portfolio assessment meetings with teachers and parents to provide transparency with individual student growth.

Teaching and Learning:
Foster a positive culture that reflects the philosophy of IHDS.
Serve as a resource to teachers regarding classroom management, teaching methods, differentiated instruction & student assessment to support all students.
Organize and monitor day-to-day duties (including recess), communicating responsibilities to teachers and students.
Provide instructional coaching, mentoring, and instructional support for faculty as well as opportunities for professional learning, development, and growth.
Observe classroom instruction and the implementation of curricular initiatives and provide feedback as appropriate on a regular basis.
Set clear expectations and scaffold for student success; facilitate a culture of joy of learning and accomplishment.
Oversee professional development opportunities (including new teacher training) and ensure teachers continue to be up to date on current trends and research in curriculum and instruction in partnership with the HOS.
Hire (in conjunction with the HOS), inspire, direct, and motivate faculty and staff to achieve their full potential in educating students.

Management and Operations:
Prepare a master class schedule and alternative schedules for special days in partnership with the HOS.
Work closely with the HOS, as well as Admissions and Advancement professionals to grow and strengthen the school’s admissions, enrollment, and retention programs.
Partner with office staff in the daily operation, communication, and management related to the following items: K-8 Master Calendar, pickup/drop off schedules, lunch service, afterschool clubs, special events, safety and security, new student and family orientations.
Assist in the review and revision of the Parent Handbook and other policies and procedures.

Student Support:
Coordinate and facilitate responsibilities and conversations related to student behavior with teachers, students, and parents, as needed.
Lead SST (student success team) meetings; Attend IEP meetings and follow up with coordinators and parents.

Family and Community Relations:
Articulate the school’s academic vision and the experience for the individual child to IHDS stakeholders.
Serve on schoolwide committees including but not limited to: Admissions Committee, Academic Committee, and Parent Committee, Recruitment and Retention Committee.
Review teachers’ weekly newsletters and edit for publication.
Work with the HOS on weekly newsletters.

Additional Duties:
Assist in preparing for WASC Accreditation Self-Study process.
Sustain a faculty culture that is collaborative and empowering.
In partnership with the administrative team encourage foster, and maintain meaningful relationships with all stakeholders including teachers, staff, administrators, students, parents, Board, and major community stakeholders.
Ensure that policies, admissions, extracurricular programming, community events, and school communications are all mission-aligned and implemented with fidelity.
Represent IHDS in the Jewish community and the community at large.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
